Delhi, Gurugram, Noida witness clean air, pollution level takes backseat

For the very first time this season, pollution levels in Delhi have improved significantly and are in the satisfactory category. Since yesterday afternoon, PM 10 is in the moderate category, whereas PM 2.5 is at a satisfactory level with moderate at one or two places. The exception for now is Chandni Chowk wherein PM 10 is still in poor category and PM 2.5 in very poor zone.

The reason for such significant improvement can be attributed to scattered rain and thundershower activities over the northwest plains as well as central parts of the country between February 18-22. However, national territory Delhi didn’t witness rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, moderate intensity winds with a speed of 15-20 kmph have begun to blow from the northwest direction, which have not allowed the pollutants to settle in the air over Delhi and its adjoining areas. According to weathermen, for the next two days, Delhi would breathe easy with improved pollution levels. There can be a marginal rise around February 24, worsening further on February 25.

The rise will be attributed to the upcoming fresh Western Disturbance in the hills, which will change the wind direction from northwesterlies to southeasterlies. The wind-speed then is also expected to drop.

The good part is that the deterioration factor would be short lived because scattered intermittent rains are once again expected between February 26 to 27 over Delhi and NCR.
