Delhi gets maiden spell of pre-Monsoon rains

April 6, 2016 11:03 AM |

Cloudy weather in DelhiDelhi has recorded its maiden spell of pre-Monsoon showers on early Wednesday morning. Though intensity of rain was light to very light but the activity has led to pleasant weather conditions.

Palam Observatory and Ridge have recorded 0.4 mm of rain around 6 am, while Safdarjung Observatory witnessed traces of rain only.

We can expect some more passing showers and thunderstorm in span of next 24 hours.

According to Skymet Weather, heat has been building up for the last few days inching closer to the pre-Monsoon activity.

Day temperatures has been surpassing 40-degree mark consecutively from April 2 to April 4, with day maximum peaking on April 3 with 43°C. This was whopping nine degrees above normal and led to heat wave conditions over the city.

Such weather conditions are generally witness during the end of April.

In addition to this, a fresh Western Disturbance and its cyclonic circulation is affecting North India. Combinations of all these factors led to pre-Monsoon rain over the national capital.

In view of these weather systems, maximum temperature had registered a dip on Tuesday but continued to settle above normal. Palam Observatory recorded 37°C on April 5 that was two degrees above normal. Similarly, Safdarjung Observatory was 35.8°C, one degree above normal.

Since rain amounts were not significant, we do not expect any change in the temperature profile on Wednesday but a drop of mere one degree cannot be ruled out.

However with persistent cloud cover, temperatures will not shoot up to 40°C but weather will continue to be warm.
