July has begun on a rainy note for the national capital as Delhi rains have made a comeback. The city that was craving for good rains has finally witnessed some rainfall activity which began during the evening hours of June 30 and continued until the early morning hours.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded 13 mm rain. Good rains of 16.6 mm were recorded at the Palam observatory as well. These rains were attributed to a combination of weather systems affecting the country.
While Monsoon has been delayed over the national capital by about a couple of days, the onset is expected during the next two days. During this period, the national capital is expected to receive good showers with a couple of heavy spells as well.
June ended on a deficient note for Delhi. The national capital recorded only 26 mm against its monthly average of 82.2 mm. However, July is expected to bring some good news for Delhiites who have been reeling under extremely humid conditions. Presently, the humidity levels in Delhi stand at a whopping 80 percent.
Both July and August are the rainiest months for Delhi. While the city receives 187.3 mm rain in July, rainfall figures in August stand at 232.5 mm. Rains in Delhi due to combined weather systems will bring that much-needed relief from the prevailing weather conditions. However, in the absence of rain, hot and humid conditions will result in discomfort.
