Later during the day, the sun did show up but due to the light winds, fog remained so throughout the day. The factors that contribute to the development of fog were prevalent over the city. Winds were light, minimum temperatures were low and humidity levels were high. In addition to these three factors, there was inversion layer which supports fog to sustain.
In contrast to this weather circumstances, fog started engulfing the city during the wee hours of the night yesterday itself. The visibility went almost nil at Palam around 9 pm. During the same time frame, other pockets of the national capital also recorded dense to very dense fog.
However, during the early morning hours of today, some refinement was seen in the weather conditions. As per weathermen, sky condition was termed as obscured which was absent on Monday. To put it simply, the sky was not discernible.
Presently, the inversion layer has become mild and winds are also strengthening. Keeping this in view, weather will improve slightly during the next 24 hours and significant enhancement is predicted after 48 hours.
Delhi recorded its lowest minimum temperature of the season on Monday with 5.7°C and today it registered a minimum of 8.4°C.
