Delhiites woke up to quite a foggy or if we can call it smoggy morning. So much so that the buildings nearby were also hardly visible. The visibility was very low in the city. While the visibility at the airport happened to be at 200 meters for at least three hours between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, other parts of the city had even poorer visibility which may have dropped to nil as well.

Not only this, air traffic along with rail traffic was also affected due to this. As per reports, four flights of different airlines kept twirling around Delhi as it was difficult for pilots to find landing ground due to heavy fog. Due to low visibility, at least 12 trains running from Delhi have also been delayed.

Until November 4, easterly-southeasterly winds were blowing over the region resulting in an increase in the moisture levels over the city. However, for the past two days, dry and cool light northwesterly winds have taken over and are affecting the weather across the region. Thus, temperatures have witnessed a drop over the region.

Thus, all the factors which are required for the formation of fog were present over the region including light winds, high humidity and low temperatures. Thus, the city did wake up to a foggy morning. Stubble burning has been responsible for the formation of smog over the region. Light winds blowing from Punjab and Haryana were carrying these pollutants and settled in the atmosphere.

These weather conditions will continue to persist over the region for at least the next two to three days. Thus, Delhiites will continue to breathe deteriorated air and witness barely visible streets.
