Delhi is experiencing one of the worst pollution phase for last 10 years. In fact, in the year 2003, dense smog with haze was also witnessed in Delhi however its duration was comparatively very less as this year.
This immense smoggy phase is acting as a barrier. This is the reason that the outgoing long wave variation is unable to escape from the earth’s surface leading to greenhouse effect.
As per the weatherman, whenever sky is clear during winters, earth’s surface cool down faster and the minimum temperature drops. Although despite the fact that we are stepping in the second week of November and still the winter like feel still does not exist.
However, as soon as this pollution level will get carried away due to moderate winds, the obscurity of sky will also clear up leading to fall in the minimum temperatures. At present, the minimums are settling between 13-15 degrees Celsius in and areas around Delhi.
This temperature is expected to come down to less than 10°C in next few days. Another reason the pollution level has not yet washed away completely is the absence of rains. Moreover, this year the frequency of Western Disturbance is also very less and till now no active Western Disturbance has affected the Western Himalayas and adjoining plains.
Had it rained, situation would have been clearer.
