Base observatory of Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4°C yesterday, first time crossing threshold of 30°C in 2021. Mercury level was 7°C above the normal in Delhi and had a record diurnal variation of 20°C. Meteorological office of Delhi at Lodhi Road measured the day maximum at 29.8°C and 6°C above the average.
The month of February has a normal maximum of about 23°C for Delhi during the 1st week and rises to 26°C towards fag end. There is an earlier record of temperature touching 30°C in February for Delhi but more often than not it happens during the last week of the month. In the past, on half of the occasions, the maximum temperature of Delhi has remained below 30°C during the month. This year it happens to be the earliest to reach the mark of 30°C for Delhi in the last 15 years.
Prior to this, February 2006 held the record for Delhi of reaching 30°C marks earliest on 08th February. It also holds the record for Delhi of having a maximum number of 11 days in the month registering temperature in excess of 30°C. In addition, the highest maximum for Delhi of 34.1°C was recorded on 26th February 2006.
In the absence of any active weather system, the national capital Delhi will observe sunny days except on 12th February. A thin layer of clouds is expected during the day restricting sunshine. Next rain for Delhi NCR is not likely before 20th February. Few more days during this month are expected to scale temperature beyond 30°C, particularly between 11th and 20th February for Delhi. While the cold conditions will continue in Delhi with minimum temperature between 8-10°C, days will be pleasantly warm during this period.
