Delhi finally broke the jinx of parched state of winters 2022-23. After staying lull for the last over 100days, Delhi/NCR region collected decent rains in the past 24hr. The capital city and suburbs were lashed with rain, lightening and thundershowers, throughout the day and night, albeit intermittently.
Base observatory at safdarjung recorded 20 mm rainfall and airport Palam measured 25mm in the 24hr. After staying dry in the month of November and December, fag end wet spell of January achieved its monthly normal quota of 19.2mm. Ayanagar with 28 mm of rainfall remained the rainiest of all pockets. Since the rainfall was staggered in to brief spells, it has not led to any inconvenience on account of waterlogging. However, the prestigious 'Beating the Retreat, ceremony at Vijay Chowk was performed amidst nearly continuous rain and showers without dampening the spirit of the occasion.
Western disturbance continue to affect the mountain states across the region. However, the induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan has weakened and also moved eastward toward West Uttar Pradesh. Remnant of these 2 weather systems will result cloudy sky over and around the capital city today. No more rains are likely. Layer of clouds will thin down too, as we proceed through the day.
Inview of overcast sky and intermittent rain yesterday, the day temperatures dipped below the normal, hovering around 17 degree, about 5 degree below the normal. Minimum temperature was however above the average due sheet of clouds during night. Mercury level will rise to breach 20 deg mark, tomorrow onwards with fair amount of sunshine. The minimum temperatures will get lowered by couple of notches in the next 24hr. No more rains are expected for the next 10days or so. However, the surface winds are going to become stronger tomorrow and persist for rest of the week, raising the chill factor, specially in the morning hours.
