Delhi and its suburbs received light to moderate showers yesterday. Most of the activity was in the first half of the day.  Rainfall was patchy but heavy at some places for a brief period. The base observatory at Safdarjung recorded 31mm rainfall and Palam observatory was just 9 mm. The highest of all observatories was at Pitampura- 49mm. Otherwise, 20-30mm rainfall was recorded at most places in the Delhi region.

Monsoon trough, the main driver of rainfall, is lying south of its normal position. It is likely to move northward and run nearby of Delhi for the next few days. There is a likelihood of an embedded cyclonic circulation over Northeast Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi in the lower levels. Under the influence of these two systems, the Delhi region will have monsoon activity over the next few days.

There is a low-pressure area over East Madhya Pradesh and an adjoining region with a support cyclonic circulation.  Another cyclonic circulation is coming up over ‘Head Bay’ and Gangetic West Bengal on 24th July. These two systems will keep the monsoon trough steady and run near its normal position. The national capital will have rainfall on a regular basis till the end of this week.  It may even spill over to the next week, as well.  Monsoon showers could be more intense and spread out also, between the 26th and 28th of July.  Day and night temperatures will keep hovering between mid 30’s and mid 20’s, respectively.
