Delhi braces for a fog-free weekend

Moderate to dense fog continues to engulf Delhi and NCR for the third consecutive day on Friday. The visibility at the Palam Observatory during the early morning hours dropped to nil today. The visibility levels at the Safdarjung Observatory also dropped to 50 meters.

The thick layer of fog even affected the rail and road traffic with as many as 38 trains reportedly being delayed, fifteen canceled and seven others were rescheduled. On the other hand, fog in other parts of the city ranged from shallow to moderate along with dense in isolated pockets.

As per Skymet Weather, the intensity of fog is gradually reducing over Delhi-NCR. The affecting Western Disturbance has moved away eastwards. With this, dry and cool winds from the northwest direction have once again commenced over northwestern plains including Delhi.

These cool winds are expected to reduce the humidity levels and will also result in dropping both the maximums and minimums by a few notches.

In fact, after 24 hours, the wind speed will further increase, leading to the abatement of dense fog from Delhi and NCR. Thus, Delhiites can brace for fog-free days for the next two to three days.

However, isolated pockets of the city can still witness shallow fog. But since the intensity of the fog will be very low, this would not affect rail and road traffic. The pollution levels are also expected to improve in Delhi and NCR.
