The city of Dehradun, located in the foothills of the Himalayas, has seen extremely pleasant Monsoon throughout. This city is usually known for its pleasant weather conditions as it receives good amount of rainfall during the Monsoon Season.

Talking about this Monsoon, the monthly average rainfall for the month of September is 300.2 mm while it has already surpassed the monthly average by recording 377 mm of rain. The city has been experiencing some light to moderate rains for the last three days but in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, very heavy rain of 58 mm has lashed the city of Dehradun.

It has also been raining in its adjoining areas like Rishikesh, Mussorie and Nainital creating immense trouble for tourists.

The rain is due to the Western Disturbance which is persisting over the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Some moderate southeasterly humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture to the entire state of Uttrakhand. For the next 24 hours, as predicted by the weathermen, we expect rains with moderate to heavy intensity over Dehradun.

Many other places in Uttrakhand like Rishikesh, Mussorie, and Nainital are at risk of experiencing landslides, mudslides and flash floods. Tourists heading towards these hill stations must take precautions in the wake of heavy rain in the region for the next 24 hours.

By September 29 the intensity of rain will reduce due to the absence of any significant weather system. Only scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells would continue to be observed in the state.
