Usually during Monsoon, most of the Northeast India remains marginally less affected by the weather system affecting the country. Most of the rainfall activity can be attributed to the localised systems and only heavy falls over the region is perpetrated by the weather systems in general.

During the last 24 hours, Dibrugarh received 28.6 mm rains, Kohima 34.6 mm, Pasighat 110.8 mm of rainfall occurred over various places in the region.

The entire Northeast India has been rainfall deficient for a long time now, and the present figures are such that these figures may not reach normal. Arunachal Pradesh is rainfall deficient by 17%, Assam and Meghalaya are rainfall deficient by 35% and NMMT region is 27% rainfall deficient.

At present the moist southerly-southwesterly winds are prevailing over most of Northeast India. The low pressure area over Andhra Pradesh coast is likely to weaken and winds pattern will be more of southerly pushing the weather system in northerly direction.

Increase in rainfall is likely over foothills of Himalayas, Upper Assam and Meghalaya. These rains will be moderate in nature with few places receiving isolated heavy spells in between. These rains will continue for next 2-4 days.

So it can be said that August will end on a rainy note for most of the Northeast India. At the same time Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura will mainly receive light rain with isolated places receiving moderate rains. Mainly cloudy to overcast sky will prevail over this region. Afternoon over NMMT will be humid in many places.
