Southwest Monsoon has finally made an onset over Kerala, a week later than its scheduled arrival. However, rains have not been as heavy as usually seen during this time.

Nevertheless, good rains were observed in Kerala in the last 24 hours. In fact, during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Kozhikode recorded 74 mm of rains, Punalur 59 mm of rainfall, Thrissur 26 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 21 mm and Valparai 13 mm.

Even during the scheduled start of Monsoon, the stream was weak. The first week of June saw a deficiency of 72 percent. Usually, the state sees hefty rainfall during this period of time. Even the Pre Monsoon rains are on the heavier side.

June has heavy rains with over 20 mm of rains for the state on a daily basis. This time, only single digit was recorded. Now, as the Cycloen Biparjoy will move away deep into the sea, the usual Monsoon pattern may set in, giving more rains over Kerala.
