Deep Depression in the Bay of Bengal

The Depression in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a Deep Depression which is centered at 21° N and 87.4° E. It is about 70 km southeast of Balasore and is still in the sea.

It is very likely to move west-northwestward and will shortly cross the Odisha coast somewhere between Balasore and Paradip. The system is likely to retain its intensity till the time it crosses the coast. The winds in association with the system are 55-60 kmph.

The coastal and the southern parts of Odisha have already been battered by torrential rains. Paradip, Bhubaneswar,Gopalpur, and Koraputrecorded 54 mm, 43 mm, 121 mm, and 138 mm of rains respectively in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the heavy rain caused a flood-like situation in the southern region of the state. Due to flash floods, several trains have been canceled and short-terminated for the safety of passengers.

The experts have to say that the system gives more intense activities over those areas which are towards the South of the track while fewer activities are seen towards North of the track.

TheDeep Depression will even give rains over West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar.Moderate rains will be seen over scattered places of these regions basically towards the southern district of the states.

During the next 24 hours, intense rain activities will be seen over parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Vidarbha region and East Madhya Pradesh.

Whereas, moderate rains will be a sight over Digha, Kolkata, Alipore, Midnapore in West Bengal, Patna and Gaya in Bihar, Ranchi in Jharkhand. It is also very likely to affect Varanasi and Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

As this Deep Depression will move deep inland, it might lose its intensity and might weaken into a Depression due to lack of moisture and unfavourable weather conditions. The system will stay over the land for four days starting from today. Around August 10, the system will make an exit and then only the remnants will give weather activities.
