Ever after the arrival of Monsoon over Kerala and over parts of northeastern states of the country, the seven sister’s states have been witnessing heavy to extremely heavy rains. So much so that North Lakhimpur and Haflong districts in Assam recorded a three digit rainfall as well.
Though after lashing parts of Northeast India with such hefty showers, rains became subdued and only very few districts of Northeast India were able to observe light traces of rains. However, once again in the past 48 hours, rains have increased and are now expected to continue in increased intensity.
In fact, the northeast region has been lashed by good rains in the last 24 hours as well. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, North Lakhimpur recorded hefty showers of 67 mm, Silchar 43 mm, Chaparmukh 25 mm, Imphal 23 mm, Rangia 15 mm and Majbat and Kohima both observed light rains of 10 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, a deep depression has crossed Bangladesh near Khepu Para early morning today at approximately 5 AM (IST). On account of this, rains picked up pace over Northeast India and lashed several states.
Skymet Weather reiterates that this deep depression is likely to continue moving in north and northeast direction towards NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura). Hence, heavy to extremely heavy rains are likely to continue over the NMMT region. Though Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya will also be witnessing moderate to heavy rains for another 48 hours.
