Deep depression to cause rains, lightning strikes in Gaya, Patna, Purnia, Begusarai

The weather system which has been brewing in the Bay of Bengal has been moving in a northwest direction and has intensified into a deep depression. The system has been giving heavy rains over many parts of West Bengal and due to its movement, the state of Bihar will also witness moderate rainfall activity.

The last 24 hours also did see some rains of light intensity in isolated pockets. Within a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Purnia recorded a mere 5.2 mm of rainfall. Whereas other districts of Bihar witnessed no good amount of rainfall activity.

Due to the effect of this prevailing weather system over Bihar, light rains with strong gusty winds are expected in many southern districts of Bihar while a few districts in eastern parts of Bihar will witness moderate intensity of rains during the next 24 hours.

With this, the intensity of rains will increase. Not only this, lightning strikes will also be seen during this period. South-central and northwest districts of Bihar are also expected to witness moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activities.

The state of Bihar is prone to lightning strikes and several deaths are reported in the region due to these weather occurrences.

Districts such as Gaya, Patna, Begusarai, Banka, Bhagalpur, Nawada, Aurangabad, Purnia, Jamui and Munger will witness good rains during the similar time period.

As on October 8, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that Bihar is rain deficient by 54%. In fact, if these good rains continue to lash the state then, it is likely for the rainfall figures to become surplus.
