About a few days ago, a fresh Monsoon system had developed in the Northwest Bay of Bengal in the form of a cyclonic circulation. The weather system lingered for a while and remained the same in intensity for some time.
The weather system began to give rains over West Bengal, Odisha and adjoining areas since the beginning itself. Thereafter, the system intensified into a low pressure area for a very short duration and further concentrated into a well-marked low pressure area.
Heavy rainfall saga continued over West Bengal with Kolkata and adjoining areas receiving heavy to very heavy rains. The Monsoon system then moved close to West Bengal and intensified into a depression. Furthermore, the system underwent rapid intensification becoming a deep depression.
Thus, heavy rains have been observed over many parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand along with several areas of Bangladesh during the last 24 hours. Three digit rains have also been recorded over some parts. Some rainfall activity has also been witnessed over coastal areas of Odisha.
Now, the weather system will move in a west-northwestward direction. Heavy rains are expected over many parts of Jharkhand and West Bengal during the next 24 hours. During the next 24 to 48 hours, the weather system will continue to weaken with its movement away from West Bengal.
During this period, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Northeast Uttar Pradesh will receive light to moderate rains. After 24 hours, rain intensity will decrease over West Bengal and the region will only witness scattered rains.
