Southwest Monsoon has finally made its presence felt in Gujarat, as it has been giving heavy to very heavy rainfall over several parts of Gujarat since Tuesday. On June 22, Northern Limit of Monsoon had advanced further covering coastal and central Gujarat. As per latest forecast by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Southwest Monsoon arrived in Gujarat in full swing and gave heavy to very heavy rain in Sauarahstra and South Gujarat region in last three days.
In last 24 hours, Ahmedabad recorded whopping 130 mm of rain, while Amreli received 127 mm and Idar received 177 mm. Surat, in last three days, has received close to 300 mm of rain. According to Skymet, a cyclonic circulation had developed over Arabian Sea, which had taken away all the moisture. However, the system gained strength later on and crossed Gujarat coast, causing extremely activities over the state.
As per Skymet, it has been noticed that western arm of the Monsoon generally remains weaker than the eastern arm. But occasionally like this year, western arm remained active on account of the depression and has been giving good rain over coastal Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Heavy rains caused due to deep depression not only created a flood-like situation in Amreli, Ahmedabad and Rajkot but also claimed a couple of lives while several others were stranded.
However, heavy rain is likely to subside and scattered light rain in Gujarat is likely to help the rescue and relief operations in the state.
