Deep Depression brings a long rainy spell over East India

Rain in BiharThe weather system in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression which is now lying over South Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal. This system is expected to move in a northwest direction during next 24 hours. Moreover, it is also likely to weaken and lose strength gradually.

Good rains have been lashing Gangetic West Bengal, coastal parts of Odisha and parts of Bihar. During last 24 hours, Gaya received 10 mm of rainfall and Patna 14 mm. Supaul also received 22 mm of rains.

Kolkata in West Bengal received 22.7 mm of rainfall. In Uttar Pradesh, Gorakhpur received 1.8 mm of rainfall while Bahraich received 7.2 mm.

As soon as the deep depression moves inland, it will weaken and start moving faster. Initially, rain intensity will increase over Jharkhand and then Bihar, as the weather system will be seen as a well-marked low over these states. Light to moderate rains will be observed over many parts of Bihar and Jharkhand.

Gradually, the rain belt will cover east Uttar Pradesh. The axis of the Monsoon trough will further move northwards. The combined effect of both the weather systems will bring good rains over East Indiaduring next couple of days.
