One of the popular cities of Gujarat, Ahmedabad witnesses 9 months of either hot or very hot weather conditions. The pleasant weather is extremely short lived, between mid-November and mid-January.
The geographical location of Ahmedabad is such that the city receives two summers. The city lies close to the Tropic of Cancer, and the sun moves twice in one season keeping Ahmedabad hot once in April-May and the second in September-October.
The second summer is due to the withdrawal of Monsoon as there is absence of cloud cover over the region. This absence allows the second beat of summer to persist over the region. Sometimes in the month of October the temperature reaches 40 degree Celsius and above.
This region along with Rajasthan eagerly awaits Monsoon as hot weather conditions persist over the region. Though the normal due date of onset of Monsoon is around June 15, the delay is expected for sure. It can possibly be said that there is at least one more week to the onset of Monsoon.
Some pre-Monsoon, quick and rapid showers usually occur over the region but this year has been unbelievably dry for the area. Zero rainfall activity has been recorded in the first 15 days of June
On the contrary, on June 5 the temperature of Ahmedabad did swell up to 45 degree Celsius. In fact all the days in June have recorded temperatures around and above 40 degree Celsius. The zero cloud cover and no sign of rain have made sure that the mercury remains on the higher side.
It was in 2014 that recorded no pre-Monsoon showers in the first 15 days of June. And with similar weather conditions to remain like this, the temperatures are likely to soar before rains lash the city.
Even with the hot and sweltering day temperatures, the evenings do provide some cool breeze that gives marginal comfort. It is expected that dry weather will continue in the third week as well and relief can be expected in the fourth week at least.
The first 5 months of the year, Ahmedabad did not see any rainfall. It is only July and August that receive the highest rainfall. The onset date of Monsoon this year is June 22.
