Decade long saga of dry February to continue in Pune

Weather conditions have remained dry in Pune for the past few weeks. No weather system has affected the region resulting in a no rain show for Lonavala’s neighbouring city of Maharashtra. As per weathermen at Skymet, the weather conditions are likely to remain the same during the rest of February.

At present, the maximum temperatures are settling at 31.5°C which happens to be normal. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature is two notches above the normal levels at 13.7°C. However, the residents are not complaining of this slight change in the weather conditions during the night, as minimums had reached around 15 degrees the day before.

Both January and February are considered to be the driest months of the year. In fact, the rainfall average in January is zero. As far as February is considered, the numbers are no better and the average rains is a mere 0.5 mm.

As per records, during the last decade, not even a single drop of rainfall has been recorded in Pune during the month of February. The last time good rains were witnessed was in the year 1984 at 29.5 mm of rainfall.

The city is expected to remain dry during the rest of the month, keeping intact the decade long dry saga of the city. One of the reasons for no rains in February is the lack of formation of weather systems in the Arabian Sea during this time of the year.
