Rajasthan is heating up significantly. Yesterday, Sri Ganganagar saw day temperature settle at a sizzling 49.6°C, almost breaching the 50 degrees Celsius mark. This is the highest temperature recorded in a city in the country so far. Other places like Churu and Bikaner also the maximum soar to settle at 48.5°Cand 46.6°C, respectively. The popular tourist destination Jaisalmer also saw the day temperature peak to 46.5°C. This rising trend in temperature establishes the fact that heat wave conditions are prevailing in most parts of Rajasthan.
The weather in the state is running dry for the last many days. Hot winds from Northwest and West are blowing in Rajasthan which is responsible for these severe heat wave conditions. We do not expect any relief from heat wave in Rajasthan for at least next one week or so.
Yesterday some places like Kota, Bundi, Phalodi, and Barmer received light rains. Thus, marginal relief from heat is possible in Southwest Rajasthan. Although these pre-Monsoon activities were only for a short duration and were highly localized, no big change in the ongoing condition is expected.
No significant weather activity is expected in Rajasthan which might prove helpful in pulling down the temperatures. However, one or two spells of thunderstorm and light dust storm activities are possible in the eastern and southeastern parts of the state during the next 24 to 48 hours. These activities will be highly localized and will hardly have any impact on the temperatures. For the next 8 to 10 days the weather condition in the state is going to remain the same.
Skymet extends caution against heatstroke due to the prevailing 'loo' in the state. We advise you to keep yourself hydrated and stay indoors as much as possible.
