As a result of dense fog, temperatures in Punjab have fallen significantly in the last 24 hours, so much so that parts of north Punjab are now reeling under severe cold conditions. The day temperatures here have witnessed a remarkable fall.
The maximum temperature in Amritsar on Tuesday settled at 13.8⁰C, a drop of seven degrees, but the minimum temperature on Wednesday morning recorded five degrees above normal, at 8.8⁰C. Maximum temperature in Amritsar had settled at 21⁰C on Monday morning.
Day temperatures in rest of Punjab have also witnessed a drop and are now hovering below 20⁰C. In Delhi, the maximum temperature on Tuesday evening settled at 22.6⁰C as opposed to 24.4⁰C on Monday.
“A cover of dense fog in Amritsar and Delhi for three consecutive days led to a drop in the day temperatures. The sky has been totally obscure for the last three days and sunlight could not penetrate, therefore the maximum dropped to 13⁰C”, said a senior meteorologist at Skymetweather.com
“This situation arises when dense fog continues for days, maximums drop to settle below 16⁰C and minimums record considerably above normal”, he added.
Till 11:30 am today, the visibility in Amritsar remained nil which indicates that the maximum temperature may not rise significantly again and would settle around 15⁰C. On the other hand the maximums in Delhi would continue to settle around 22 to 23⁰C because of the appearance of the sun at intervals.
