Ratnagiri, Mumbai to witness heavy rains; Mumbai-Nagpur Duronto derailed in Asangaon

As predicted by Skymet Weather, the state of Maharashtra received immensely heavy Monsoon showers. During last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous along the West Coast. Heavy spells were recorded over most places of Mumbai and adjoining areas.

Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada also received good rains in the last 24 hours. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Dahanu witnessed extremely heavy rain of 195 mm, Harnai 178 mm, Alibag 161 mm, Colaba Observatory in Mumbai 152 mm and Santacruz Observatory 88 mm and Brahmapuri 64 mm, Akola 66 mm and Jeur 50 mm of rain.

Moderate intensity rain of 37 mm was recorded in Satara, Thane 32 mm, Sholapur 27 mm and Wardha 25 mm of rain. In the same span of time, Amravati witnessed light rain of 16 mm and Parbhani 14 mm of rain. These rains can be attributed to the Low Pressure area over Chhattisgarh which has moved in west direction and now can be marked over southwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining area.

An associated upper air cyclonic circulation also is extending up to upper tropospheric level. The system is likely to move further west towards Gujarat. As per Skymet Weather, it is anticipated that rainfall activity will continue with moderate to heavy spells along the West Coast Including Mumbai, North Madhya Maharashtra.

However reduced rain activity is likely over Vidarbah and Marathwada. Rainfall activity over Konkan is expected to reduce after 24 hours gradually and significantly after 48 hours. Pune will witness a pleasant day with, windy and overcast weather conditions. Spells of rain will continue and decrease thereafter. Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune will record moderate intensity of rains meanwhile, Mumbai, Dahanu, Ratnagiri, and Vengurla will receive heavy rainy spells.

Heavy Monsoon showers have been occuring over Mumbai and adjoining areas. In between these hefty rains Nagpur-bound Duronto Express got derailed in Maharashtra on Tuesday near Asangaon in Maharashtra. An engine and nine coaches of the train have been affected badly. Railway officials said that there have been no casualties so far, rescue teams have reached from Kalyan to the accidental spot as per media reports. Heavy to very heavy rains will continue over the Asangaon also in the next 24 hours.
