The coastal areas of Tamil Nadu have observed moderate rain and thundershower activities during the last 24 hours. As per the rainfall data available with Skymet, Meenambakkam has recorded 26 mm of rain, while the capital city of Chennai received 18.3 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday.
On the other hand, the rainfall activities were comparatively less over the interior parts of the state. Dharmapuri observed 10 mm of rain, Tuticorin 9 mm, while isolated rains occurred over Karaikal and adjoining area during the same time frame.
According to Skymet, a Cyclonic Circulation has formed over Southwest Bay of Bengal and a Trough is extending up to South Tamil Nadu from this system.
Under the influence of these systems, the rainfall activities are likely to increase today in parts of Coastal Tamil Nadu. Chennai along with Puducherry, Karaikal, and Pamban may receive moderate showers with isolated heavy spells during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells are likely over Interior Tamil Nadu.
The rainfall activities would reduce to some extent after the next 24 hours, but on and off rains would continue in Chennai and other coastal districts until October 29. Thereafter, rains would subside in the entire state.
