Cyclonic circulation in Central Pakistan affects weather in North India

The entire Indo-Gangetic plains received fairly widespread rain along with thundershower activities right from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It is due to the cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and a trough extending from this cyclonic circulation up to Gangetic West Bengal across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, Bihar and Jharkhand that the northern parts of India received a fairly widespread rainfall.

A cyclonic circulation was also seen over South Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Northern MP. In fact, the combined effect of these weather systems gave rise to convective cloud formation and good rain over the Gangetic plains. As the cyclonic circulation was over central Pakistan, therefore, light to moderate rain was also observed there. Intensity of rainfall was high over foothills of Himalayas particularly over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A couple of incidents of cloud burst were also reported.

Light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells will continue over parts of Punjab, northwest Uttar Pradesh along with foothills of Uttar Pradesh. Bihar including sub-Himalayan West Bengal may also receive showers.

An unfortunate event of cloud burst over the hilly regions of Uttarakhand cannot be ruled out, however, it is expected that the weather in the hilly regions and North India will clear up and the temperature is expected to rise up by evening of 31st May or 1st June. The good news being that the Char dham yatra which has been obstructed due to heavy and continuous rain may resume from 1st June onward.
