Cyclonic circulation over south Madhya Pradesh and adjoining north Maharashtra has given light to moderate rainfall over parts of north Maharashtra, adjoining Chhattisgarh and south Madhya Pradesh.
In Maharashtra, the rain belt covered areas from Madhya Maharashtra to Marathwada and Vidarbha region. In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Wardha recorded 21.2 mm of rain, Amravati 13.2 mm of rain, Yavatmal 12.4 mm, Buldhana 8 mm, Jalgaon 5.7 mm, Nagpur 5.6 mm and Aurangabad 4.4 mm of rain.
Hailstorm was also witnessed over several areas of Nashik district, which has damaged standing crop in the region. Farmers have suffered massive loss due to uncertain weather.
In Madhya Pradesh, Betul received 16 mm of rain, Pachmarhi 9.2 mm, Khandwa 3 mm and Indore 2 mm.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rain over Maharashtra will be ceasing soon as rain belt has now shifted eastwards. The system will now give scattered rain over parts of east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and adjoining region of Jharkhand.
The system is further expected to extend up to Odisha during the next 24 hours, giving light precipitation over the area. As per the forecast by Skymet, the system will clear in next 48 hours.
Rainfall over Central India during this time of the year is not frequent, neither are any weather systems experienced. It is very rare to see such kinds of system affecting the region. During this period, rain remains confined to either the northern plains or extreme southern parts of the country.
