With beginning of April, cyclone season of India has also commenced. However, we have not witnessed development of any weather system either in Bay of Bengal or Arabian Sea so far.
It seems that the wait for cyclone might come to an end as weather models are now indicating towards development of a fresh weather system that may has potential of intensifying into a cyclonic storm. But we need to wait and watch which turn does the system takes. If it transforms into a cyclonic storm it would be named as 'Cyclone Mora'.
According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation has formed over extreme Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea. At present, the circulation is extending up to 2.1 kilometers above sea level.
The system is likely to get more marked gradually and by April 14, it may intensify in to a low pressure area. Initially, it is expected to move towards north-northwest.
By April 16, the system may gather more strength and turn into a well-marked low pressure area. It will then track northwards. Due to its long sea travel, it is likely to be a slow-moving system.
Thereafter by April 19, it is likely to churn into north-northeast direction, heading towards Bangladesh or Myanmar coast.
In this process, the system may give rainfall along the East Coast that may cover parts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. However, any prolonged spell of heavy rains may escape the Indian coastal regions.
India witnesses two cyclone seasons—pre Monsoon in April and May and post Monsoon in October, November and December.
