During the Southwest Monsoon season, several weather systems developed in the Bay of Bengal. So much so that many areas in the East Coast as well as quite a few areas of East India continued to receive good rains throughout the season.
Just about a few days ago, a cyclonic circulation had developed in the west-central Bay of Bengal. This system has been persisting for a while now and has been giving good rains over several parts of the East Coast.
Until yesterday, the weather system was over west-central Bay off the Andhra Pradesh coast. Now, the circulation has moved slightly and is currently over Northwest Bay of Bengal off the West Bengal and Odisha coast tilting southwestwards with height.
During the last 24 hours, good rains have been recorded over many areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha Coast. In fact, a few areas have received a few heavy showers as well.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Gopalpur received a whopping 57 mm of rain, Visakhapatnam 26 mm, Kakinada 16 mm, Paradip 22 mm. The interiors of Odisha including Keonjhargarh (38 mm) and Sambalpur (37 mm) also observed heavy rains during the same time frame.
Now, this system is likely to give more rains over coastal parts of both the states during the next 24 hours. Intensity of rains will be more over Odisha.
