Cyclone Vardah to give heavy rains over Andhra Pradesh by weekend

The Northeast Monsoon 2016’s third cyclone has finally formed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal. The weather system was a depression until the evening hours of yesterday. However, during the night, it concentrated into a depression.

Thereafter, during the early morning hours of today, the system finally intensified into a cyclonic storm “Vardah”. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the system is expected to undergo even further intensification and become a severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow.

As of now, the weather system is expected to hit the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh by Monday. However, rainfall will begin over the state December 10 onward itself. Due to the moisture incursion over the state from the system, rains are expected to begin by Saturday itself.

However, the intensity of rains will be light to moderate only on Saturday and only scattered areas will receive rains. The rainfall intensity is expected to increase by Sunday and moderate to heavy rains are expected to lash the state.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea December 10 onward. In fact, they are to return to the coast by December 10 itself. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough.

In fact, these rain showers will continue at least for 48 hours since Saturday. Areas expected to receive heavy rains include Ongole, Nellore, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Visakhapatnam and other cities lying in the coastal areas of the state.
