Cyclone Vardah makes landfall near Chennai

Cyclonic storm Vardah which is presently a severe cyclonic storm has hit near Chennai. The capital city of Tamil Nadu has already begun to receive heavy rains and the rainfall intensity of rains is expected to increase as the eye of the cyclone hits close to the city.

The city is expected to receive heavy to heavy rains with extremely heavy rains at isolated places. The storm has already begun to wreak havoc over the city as several hundreds of trees have been uprooted and some of them have even been falling on trees.

As per weathermen, the intensity is unlikely to drop down for at least the next few hours. Just a few minutes ago, the first arm of the storm hit near Chennai and an hour later the eye of the storm is likely to strike close to the city.

As of now, the situation has begun to worsen weather wise and strong winds have been wreaking havoc. Rainfall intensity is expected to increase anytime now. Schools and colleges remain shut and several offices have also asked people to work from him. Anna University exams have also been postponed.

At present, the severe cyclonic storm has made landfall near Chennai. Until now, at least 7000 people have been evacuated and moved to safer places. Low lying areas are expected to witness water inundation. Residents have been asked to stay indoors and charge their phones. Power outage has already been observed in northern parts of the city.
