Cyclone Vardah landfall likely close to ChennaiCyclone Vardah which was formed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal on Thursday has undergone several modifications during the past few days. The system was close to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and wreaked havoc over the region. So much so that over 2000 tourists were stranded in Havelock and Neil Islands.

During the past 48 hours, the system intensified into a severe cyclone and thereafter into very severe cyclonic storm. Rains have significantly reduced over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the last 24 hours as the system has moved away.

Until yesterday, the system was likely to move towards the Andhra Coast and give heavy to very heavy rains over Andhra Pradesh and light to moderate rains overChennaiand other parts ofTamil Nadu. However, during the past 12 hours or so, the weather system has changed its course and is now moving in a west-southwestward direction.

Now, the system is expected to cross the North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast. In fact, the landfall is expected to be very close to Chennai which is why the city is expected to receive moderate to heavy rains tomorrow with isolated very heavy spells.

Other parts of North Coastal Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh are also expected to receive some rains.
