Cyclone Titli: Torrential rains wreak havoc in Odisha, to remain on alert for 24 hrs

As predicted, heavy to extremely rains have lashed several parts of Coastal Odisha as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Titli making landfall at Palasa in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh and southwest of Gopalpur, Odisha on Thursday morning. At the time of landfall, Gopalpur reported surface winds with speed exceeding 126 kmph.

Following table would showcase the rainfall figures recorded across Odisha during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am.

Moving northwestwards, Cyclone Titli is now completely over land. The system is centered over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha near latitude 18.8°N and longitude 84.4°E, about 70 km southwest of Gopalpur and 60 km north-northeast of Kalingapatnam.

Squally winds with speed of 70-80 kmph gusting up to 90 kmph would continue along and off Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh during the day. Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts would remain in radar of the cyclone, and stands fair chances of incessant showers.

Heavy to extremely heavy rains would continue to lash Odisha on Thursday, with rain belt gradually shifting from south to north.

Titli has brought several areas of the state to standstill. So far, over 3 lakh people have been evacuated and shifted to shelter homes. 15 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with the Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) are deployed at different places.

According to Skymet Weather, Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Titli would continue to sustain a strength of cyclonic storm till Thursday evening, though it would waken gradually in ranks.

Titli would start changing its track during the afternoon hours, which would then track northeastwards towards Gangetic West Bengal across Odisha. It is likely to weaken into severe cyclonic storm around Thursday afternoon, thereafter into a cyclonic storm by evening.
