Cyclone Tauktae: Rain and cyclone alert for Maharashtra

Very severe cyclone Tauktae is at present around 100 km west of Goa. It is expected to move in the north or north northwest direction parallel to the Maharashtra coast and may make a landfall over the South coast of Gujarat near Amreli on the early morning of May 18.

Heavy to very heavy rain and thundershower activities are expected over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra until the afternoon of May 18. Moderate to heavy rain has already commenced over South Konkan and Goa and South Madhya Maharashtra. There will be a gradual increase in rain activities by today afternoon. Rain will also start increasing over Pune, Raigarh, Mumbai, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, and Nasik.

Wind speed along the coast of Maharashtra will be 50-60 Kmph in gust may reach 70 Kmph. Winds in the Arabian Sea around 50 nautical miles from the coast will be very strong around 120-130 Kmph in gust 150 Kmph.

Madhya Maharashtra and parts of west Vidarbha may receive patchy light rains only.
