Thereafter, the system continued to move north-northeastwards and has now weakened into a deep depression. The system is currently moving at a very fast pace and is likely to weaken even further during the next 12 hours or so. Presently, the system is close to Imphal and Northeast remains under threat.
The system has already resulted in torrential rains over Bangladesh killing at least 21 people. Many areas have recorded extremely heavy rain resulting in landslides, damaged homes, and much more. Not only this, heavy rain has also been recorded in some areas of Northeast India.
During the last 21 hours, Imphal has recorded a whopping 94 mm of rain, which happens to be the highest 24-hour rainfall in a decade. The city recorded 122.4 mm rain in 24-hours on May 27, 1956.
More rain is expected over Northeast India, very heavy rain is also likely over some areas. Residents have been advised to exercise caution and be aware.
