The weather system which was developing over Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm and is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm. The storm has already given heavy rain over Andhra Pradesh and more showers are likely.

While Roanu is battering the East Coast with heavy rain and high velocity winds, the storm has given record breaking rain over several areas on its way.

While the silicon city recorded 30 mm of rain on Wednesday, 34 mm rain was received during the last 24 hours. In fact, Cyclone Roanu has helped Bangalore surpass its monthly average rainfall in less than three weeks.

The monthly average rainfall for Bangalore stands at 110.2 mm. So far Bangalore has already recorded 120 mm of rain. With ten days left in May, the city is expected to receive more rain and the figures may see a slight upward trend.

Now, as the system is moving away towards Bangladesh, rainfall intensity will reduce over Bangalore. However, on and off light rain will continue over the city. Due to these rains, temperatures have also taken a dip resulting in comfortable weather conditions over Bangalore. Currently, the maximum in Bangalore settles at 30 degrees, which is three degrees below the normal levels.
