Kolkata and other parts of Gangetic West Bengal are under the ambit of rainfall fury caused by Cyclone Roanu as it is rapidly moving towards Bangladesh. While the cyclone is rapidly moving towards our neighbouring country, it is leaving trail of heavy rain on its ways. Kolkata has received more than 50 mm of rain in last 48 hours due to Cyclone Roanu and it is likely to receive patches of heavy rain during next 24 hours.

Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal were pounded by heavy rain from Thursday night onwards as Cyclone Roanu continued to move eastwards after giving torrential rain in Chennai and parts of Andhra Pradesh.

The mercury has witnessed a drop of 7 degrees in last 2 days and with rain continuing in Kolkata for next one or two more days, the drop is likely to be arrested. Currently, the maximum is settled at 29.6°C which is 5 degrees below than the normal.  The night temperature too witnessed a significant drop of 4 degrees and settled at 24°C yesterday in comparison to 28°C on 18 May.

Cyclone Roanu had triggered incessant rain over Andhra Pradesh in last two days and was posing threat to West Bengal. However, the cyclone did not create much damage in West Bengal as it came closer to the state.
