Cyclone Roanu is keeping Andhra Pradesh on its toes as heavy rain has lashed the state in last 24 hours and strong downpour is likely in several coastal parts during next 24 hours.
Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are under flood alert as heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the area as cyclone Roanu is currently around 125 km east-southeast of Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone has already given three digit rainfall over few areas of Andhra Pradesh in last 24 hours.
While Kakinada received the maximum amount of rainfall, i.e. 173 mm, Bapatla with 134 mm of rain followed. The unprecedented heavy rain in Kakinada broke ten-year-old record of 146 mm that took place in 2014. The coastal city also exceeded its monthly average rainfall of 42.3 mm in a span of 24 hours.
