Cyclone Roanu brings 3 digit rainfall in Andhra Pradesh for second consecutive day

Heavy rains continue to lash coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Cyclone Roanu is rapidly moving in the northeast direction along the East coast. Winds could reach the speeds of 100 km per hour in Odisha, where 12 districts have been put on cyclone alert.

At present, the winds are blowing at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph, gusting to 50 to 60 kmph over Andhra Pradesh.

During last 24 hours, several places in Andhra Pradesh recorded 3 digit rainfall. Here’s a look at the rainfall figures:

Cyclone Roanu in Westcentral Bay of Bengal continues to retain its strength as a cyclonic storm. It is now lying around Latitude 18°N and Longitude 84.2°E, around 40 km south-southeast of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 365 km south-southwest of Paradip in Odisha.

The government authorities of both the states are prepared to face the wrath of the storm. Food, drinking water and medical supplies have been kept in place in case of any untoward situation.

Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has asked the officials to open relief camps and start evacuating people to safer places.
