Cyclone Roanu batters Andhra Pradesh with 5 times more rainfall than normal

Since the time of its inception in the Bay of Bengal, Cyclone Roanu had been a threat to eastern coast of India with the probability of affecting Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh coast, Odisha and West Bengal during the course of 5-6 days.

Cyclone Roanu is the first cyclone of the season that was also responsible for the weather occurrences across the country.

After giving unprecedented heavy Chennai rains and bringing respite from hot weather in several areas of Tamil Nadu, Cyclone Roanu moved northwards towards Andhra Pradesh, giving moderate to heavy rain May 18 onwards.

Cyclone Roanu gave 3 digit rainfall in Andhra Pradesh for two consecutive days, affecting Andhra Pradesh severely in comparison to Tamil Nadu.

Here is the list of cumulative rainfall received in areas of Andhra Pradesh from May 18 till May 20.

Almost all places received rainfall that 3-5 times higher than the normal rainfall for May. Due to the rainfall places like Kalingapatnam, Visakhapatnam and Kakinada exceeded the monthly rainfall for May with aplomb.
