During the last 24 hours, cloudy to overcast sky conditions prevailed over Odisha. A few places also experienced very light rains over South coastal Odisha. The surface winds were light as of now.
The Cyclonic storm Phethai lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal and would be moving northwestwards initially towards Andhra Pradesh coast. Due to this system, the cloud-cover will further become dense. The surface wind intensity will also increase. During the next 24 hours, light to moderate winds will affect many places. During the next 24 hours, the night temperatures are expected to increase while day temperatures will decrease.
Later, winds will be followed by moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activity over the entire state. Places like Ganjam, Koraput, Malkanpuri, Nabarangpur, Puri, Rayagada, Dhenkanal and Phulbani are likely to receive heavy rainfall along with strong winds in the next 36 to 48 hours.
These weather conditions are likely to continue till December 17 or 18. Thereafter rain intensity and surface wind speed will decrease.
Odisha has everything in its bag which calls for travelling and exploring the very state with great enthusiasm- be it the historical temples, dense forests, beautiful lakes or the coast line. October to March is considered the best time to visit Odisha when weather is clear and pleasant. But this year, Cyclone ‘Phethai’ is posing a problem for tourism and if anything, this for sure is not the best time to visit the state.
