Cyclone Ockhi revives Bengaluru rains, pleasant weather ahead

rain in bengaluruAfter remaining dry for over two weeks, rain in Bengaluru has finally made a comeback. All thanks to the cyclonic storm Ockhi over Comorin area and neighborhood.

Ockhi is centered at Latitude 7.5°N and Longitude 77.5°E, around 55 km south of Kanyakumari, 120 km southwest of Thiruvananthapuram, 480 km east­southeast of Minicoy and 340 km west­-northwest of Galle in Sri Lanka.

According to Skymet Weather, the cyclone would continue to move in west­northwest direction towards Lakshadweep Islands. Weather conditions remains conducive for the further strengthening of the system into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours.

Although system is far away from Karnataka but the peripherals of the system have been impacting weather over the region. The system has been strengthening moist easterly winds over Bengaluru, leading to rain and thundershowers over the city. Have a look at the wind pattern along the system that would give you fair idea of how Cyclone Ockhi has been affecting Bengaluru weather.

Cyclone Ockhi

The city has been recording light rains and thundershowers since morning hours. Weathermen predict on and off light rains would continue over Bengaluru for the next 24 hours. However, chances of any moderate or heavy spell are ruled out as of now.

Thereafter, weather conditions would again go dry over Bengaluru. These showers pave way for cool and pleasant weather conditions, bringing in respite from respite weather conditions.

Another spell of rains is approaching Bengaluru during the first week of December. These showers would be due to the impact of another low pressure area brewing in Andaman Sea. The system would travel from southeast Bay of Bengal towards North Tamil Nadu coast by December 5-6.

During this time also, we do not expect heavy rain over Bengaluru.
