December 3, 2017 3:19 PM |

Kerala 1

The very severe Cyclone Ockhi over Southeast Arabian Sea continues to move west northwestwards. The system is presently centered near Latitude 11.1°N and Longitude 69.7°E, about 390 Km west-southwest of Amini Divi, 910 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 1120 km south-southwest of Surat.

During the last 24 hours, light rain at some places with moderate spells at few places occurred over Kerala. These showers were mainly confined to South Kerala.

Cyclone Ockhi has already claimed 13 lives across Kerala, with 117 fishermen still missing. Joint rescue operations by the Indian navy, Air Force and Coast guard continued on the third day.

The drenching rains given by Ockhi threw the normal life out of gear. Schools near the coast were shut due to rough sea conditions and gusty winds.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Thiruvananthapuram recorded rains to the tune of 24 mm, Punalur 12 mm, Alappuzha 2 mm, Kochi 2 mm and Palakkad 1 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, the similar weather will prevail for the next two to three days. That is only light rains with isolated moderate showers are expected over some parts of Kerala.

As the system has moved away from the region, the situation across the state will improve now, so we highly recommend the public to not panic anymore.

Moreover, the well-marked low pressure area in Bay of Bengal is also not foreseen to have much impact in terms of rain activity over Kerala as it will track along the east coast.

As of now, the minimum temperatures are likely to decrease and settle around 22°C-23°C, while maximum temperatures will remain between 29°C -31 degrees. Day will remain cloudy and humid, while night is likely to be pleasant.
