Delhiites once again woke up to a smoggy morning and this was a clear indication that Delhi has now emerged as a gas chamber. The choking air quality in Delhi even gained international attention when the Sri Lankans were seen wearing masks while playing their test series against India on Sunday.
The smoky weather that appeared on Sunday continued Monday as well. Delhiites have been bracing for the weather to improve though this is not foreseen for at least another 24-48 hours. The air quality in Delhi that has been ranging from ‘severe’ to ‘very poor’ will continue to bother the Delhiites until December 5 or 6 until some rains are anticipated. [yuzo_related] In fact, these would be the second wintery spell of the season after November 17 when the isolated pockets of Delhi recorded 1 m of light spells.

This system is expected to head towards Gujarat and while its journey towards the Northwest India, it will incur moisture-laden winds to blow over many parts of Central and Northern India including Delhi and NCR. As the moisture levels will increase, it will result in an increase in the cloud cover. At present also, the cloud cover has started to thicken. The gradual increase in the intensity of the clouds is expected to result in rains over the National Capital Region including its adjoining Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram. Though the intensity of these rains will not be moderate or heavy and will be highly localized and patchy in nature. Therefore, a significant relief from the on-going rising pollution levels is not foreseen. However, after December 7, the wind speed is likely to speed up slightly and this will, in turn, bring the much-awaited relief from the so talked about Delhi Pollution.
