Cyclone Ockhi: 10 Latest Developments

The first cyclone of the season formed yesterday and was named as Ockhi, a name given by Bangladesh. The cyclonic storm has already wreaked havoc in the southern parts of Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu. The system is now heading towards Lakshadweep and hefty rains have already begun over the region.

Let us take a look at the ten latest developments on Cyclone Ockhi

The cyclone has  intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and is heading towards Lakshadweep.

Ockhi is now heading towards Lakshadweep where three digit rains have already begun to lash the region. In fact, 191 mm of rainfall has already been observed by Minicoy in the last 24 hours.

Three digit rains have also been reported in a few areas of Kerala with Coonoor witnessing a whopping 129 mm of rainfall.

Chennai rains have also been quite intense with the city recording a whopping 65 mm of rainfall

As per media reports, at least eight people have been killed due to the cyclonic storm.

Not only this, reportedly, 250 fishermen have been missing off the coast of Thiruvananthapuram due to which a search and rescue operation has bee launched by the Indian Navy in southern Kerala.

Schools are likely to remain closed in districts of Chennai, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Kanyakumari, Nellai, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai and Thoothukudi.

Heavy rains that have already lashed Kerala and southern parts of Kerala have caused a state of panic in the region. Hundreds of people have been affected due to Cyclone Ockhi

In Sri Lanka, at least seven people have been reported to have been missing and five killed due to the cyclone

Sea conditions will remain rough and will be accompanied with strong winds blowing along the coasts of Kerala, Lakshadweep and South Tamil Nadu.
