Cyclone Mora: Kolkata to receive good pre-Monsoon rains

May 30, 2017 4:18 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Kolkata has been recording scattered pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers for the last four consecutive days. As a result, day temperatures are now settling near normal but since these activities occur during evening hours, the weather has remained warm and humid.

In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, the state capital has recorded 1 mm of rain. These showers can be attributed to the Severe Cyclone Mora which has hit the Bangladesh coast on the morning of May 30.

Therefore, due to the impact of this tropical storm, we can expect good rain and thundershowers over West Bengal including Kolkata for the next 36-48 hours. With this, a significant drop in day temperature is likely over Kolkata and northeastern states of India.

As per Skymet Weather, scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers will continue over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata from between May 31 to June 2. The intensity of these rains will increase by May 30 and May 31. This would be due to eastward movement of Cyclonic Storm Mora towards Northeast India.
