Cyclone Mora brings Southwest Monsoon over Northeast India

After Cyclone Mora made landfall over Bangladesh region, Southwest Monsoon has finally arrived over parts of Northeast India. After making an onset over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and other parts of Bay of Bengal with a bang, Southwest Monsoon has finally made an onset over Kerala and Northeast India. The residents of the Northeast Indian region can now enjoy those Monsoon showers pouring over the region.

Usually, Monsoon makes an onset over both Kerala as well as Northeast India within a gap of a day or two. However, this year, Southwest Monsoon hit both the regions at the same time. Northeast India had been receiving good rains during the last 24 to 48 hours under the influence of Cyclone Mora.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Shillong received a good 26 mm of rain followed by 22 mm of rainfall in Imphal. Other areas also received rains including Haflong 17 mm, Chaparmukh 10 mm, Kohima 10 mm, North Lakhimpur 9 mm, and Dhubri 7 mm.

Now with the Cyclone making a landfall over Bangladesh and Monsoon announcing its arrival over the Northeastern region, good rains are likely to continue over Northeast India.

The cyclonic storm Mora has been responsible for pulling the Monsoon further over the Northeastern region. During the four-month long Monsoon season, Northeast India one of the rainiest regions. Here, good rains continue to lash throughout the Monsoon period.
