Cyclonic storm Mandous has now become a severe cyclonic storm, with winds gusting up to 100 kmph and moved more of northwestward, earlier, however, the system was moving west northwestward. The speed of the storm movement is at 10-12 km per hour.
Towards early morning, the system will once again become a Cyclonic Storm as it is not likely to retain its intensity for very long. Mandous is also gaining latitude and is moving towards northern Tamil Nadu.
Thus, the system will weaken slightly and lose its steam. This will be because of the sea conditions, the proximity of land and the dip in sea temperatures. Storm will marginally weaken initially and then more thereafter.
The system is going to be heading over northern coast of Tamil Nadu. The landfall is likely to be anything between Chennai and Puducherry by tomorrow night.
Though the main cluster of cloud is away from the coast but the peripherals of clouds have reached the coastal regions. So much so that both Puducherry and Chennai have started to see some light and intermittent rains. Winds are picking up over the coast and rains will later on pick up even more.
