Chennai Rain

During the last 24 hours, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Comorin Area has intensified into a Depression and is moving in Northwest direction. At present, the system is prevalent over Southeast Arabian Sea, South of Kerala. It is likely to intensify further into a Deep Depression and move across Lakshadweep area.

Already, Tamil Nadu has been receiving moderate to heavy rains for the last three days due to the prevailing weather system. While Thoothukudi recorded 71 mm, Karaikal 44 mm, Parangipettai 54 mm, Kodaikanal 80 mm and Madurai recorded 35 mm rains. In fact, Chennai has also received good rains to the tune of 41 mm in the last 24 hours.

Now, we expect moderate to heavy rains to continue in Tamil Nadu for another 24 hours. Thereafter, the rain intensity will go down and the Deep Depression will move further Northwestwards. According to the forecasters at Skymet, there’s quite a possibility that the system might intensify into Cyclone ‘Maha’ anytime soon.

After 24 hours, rain activities over Tamil Nadu will start decreasing but light to moderate rains are expected to continue over the state.

In fact, Tamil Nadu and other Southern states of the country haven’t received enough rains in the last few days. However, the upcoming weather systems are sure to bring good rains over the region.
