Rain in Gujarat

During the last 24 hours, the state of Gujarat has recorded light rain and thundershowers at many places with moderate showers at isolated places. These weather conditions have occurred due to the presence of a Severe Cyclonic Storm over East-central parts of Arabian Sea and a Western Disturbance over North Pakistan and adjoining regions. The Western Disturbance is moving away east-northeastwards and the Severe Cyclonic Storm is moving West-northwestwards. Hence, during the next 24 hours, the rainfall activity will be decreasing. However, due to the presence of moisture and remnants of these systems, light rains will be affecting at scattered places.

The Severe Cyclonic Storm Maha presently lies over East-central parts of Arabian Sea which is about 520 km South-southwest of Veraval. This system, would be moving further west-northwestwards during the next 24 to 36 hours. Thereafter, this system would be recurving towards South Gujarat and North Maharashtra coast in East-northwesterly direction. After recurving, the system would be weakening gradually. Places like Veraval, Porbandar, Diu, Navsari, Valsad, Surat, Bhavnagar Amreli, Junagarh, Dangs, etc would be affected between November 6 to 8.

During this period, moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places with heavy showers at isolated places along with strong winds. Sea conditions will remain rough to very rough with high tides. At the same time, the northern parts of Gujarat, will experience cloudy sky conditions and strong winds, though the rainfall activities will be light.

Agriculture, fishing and livelihood are likely to get affected due to strong winds in the southern parts of Gujarat.
